..Whoever kills an innocent soul.. it is as if he killed the whole of mankind, And whoever saves one, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind
? [The Quran, 5:32]

The Muslim communities across Britain condemn without reservation the savage atrocity that was perpetrated on Thursday 7 th July in London .

We often hear claims that Muslims do not condemn terrorism and that Islam condones violence. We want to state clearly that those who commit acts of terror in the name of Islam are betraying the teachings of the Qur'an and the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) . We reject anyone who commits such brutal acts and will not allow our faith to be hijacked by criminals.

The British Muslim community should not be held responsible for the acts of a few individuals. There is much work to be done together by everyone to channel the energy and capabilities of Muslim youth into productive activities. Muslim youth need understanding, not ostracisation.

  • We are determined to work with the wider community to remove pockets of all extremism in British society. We will continue with our programme of dialogue within our society and work for the common good.
  • We seek to further partnerships with the wider community including schools, businesses and government to urgently address the problems of racism, Islamophobia, unemployment, economic depravation and social exclusion so that we can address the inequalities in our neighbourhoods.
  • We call on the international community to work towards a just and lasting peace in areas of conflict around the world to help eliminate the grievances that nurture violence.

We are united with the rest of the country at this sad time and continue to pray for the victims' families and the swift recovery of those injured.

We must maintain and preserve our unity, anything less is a capitulation to those terrorists and criminals whose aim is to cause a division amongst neighbours, friends and work colleagues in the culturally rich community that is Britain.
